Quote: Which direction should I go? Be confused by other people's programs or confuse others with mine?

Go with your own

I'm currently learning, and having lots of fun doing PHP, I have a joke site which was over 2000 pages (one pic per page) so far in beta stages I now have the site down to 3 pages, (index, contents and display pages).
I'm not using the MySQL database yet, still learning the pros and cons of PHP but using included files, it runs well and best of all, I did it, lil ole me, all by myself, its such a buzz
I know later once I start using MySQL it will be easy to add, delete or change entries, something to look forward to.

My advice to anyone that is questioning whether to learn or to buy/steal/use someone else code is to at least try do it yourself, and if at first you dont succeed, try again.

Remember we are only limited by our imagations

**next step, spelling lessons :Þ**

using asp or figuring out how to use a program

This is a really interesting discussion.

I have been working on data base driven site with asp.
I'm considering building an easy update feature for content with asp. The navigation is already set up with some server side automation which I consider much easier that going in a rewriting all the html for the navidation links. But I'm not sure if the site owner will think so.

My quesion is, does it make sense to design content and navigation with asp or to get a program like the one mentioned above. In other words, is it better to program this myself and or use a ready made program and invest the time neccessary to figure out how that program works.

Personally I dread figuring out how to use programs but enjoy the challenge of writing my own code.

Which direction should I go? Be confused by other people's programs or confuse others with mine?

EZPub is a content management system that is database driven and can be set up to do this - use a template, you go into the admin area and just type in content and it adds the content to the site, etc. It's at http://developer.ez.no

Edited to add that EZPub is, last time I checked, a free program.

It is *not*, however, easy to set up or to work with. It takes time to figure out all the nuances of the menu boxes, formatting of the articles, and setting up the templates. I've just implemented it on http://www.cyclura.com but this site really isn't representative of what the program can do, because we aren't using any of the dynamic menus or the dynamic article index pages (listing all the articles in a section, for example).

Hope this helps,

Tiffany

I think what your wanting is a database driven site, where you'd make a template of the site then later on just use a seperate page to add into it.

I doubt you'd find a setup like this as freeware.

unless no one has any other ideas, post a message in the jobs and barter forum

p.s. your site wouldnt load for me
