I can't remember what programs that wouldn't work. On second thought, I think that they did work okay in KDE, but the installer only worked in Gnome.

Haven't ever played with Winux nor heard much about it.

What doesn't work in KDE?
Also, instead of VMware, I might run Pogo's Winux.
Any experience or reviews of that?

Whats the difference between gnome and KDE?

They are just different. I like certain features of Gnome but to me overall it is a more radical shift from the Windows desktop. I tend to like KDE, though I have seen a couple of programs that wouldn't work in KDE.

Either one would work fine for you. Mandrake is a little bit slicker IMO than RedHat. It seems to come with the most bells and whistles. It does seem that I have had more X-windows problems with Mandrake. I have also installed it more times so it could be a fluke. Also RedHat defaults to a Gnome desktop instead of KDE that Mandrake defaults to.
