If you are using the router, you should configure it to do port forwarding. What type of router is it?
I also use zoneedit. Who did you register your domain with?
To edit your DNS info, get into the control panel for your domain at your registrar, and the nameservers are ns1.zoneedit.com and ns2.zoneedit.com once you have that set, log back in to zoneedit, and the message saying you should change your nameservers should be gone.
Hope this helps!

You would use something like

ns1.zoneedit.com
and
ns2.zoneedit.com

Check with Zone edit.

Also read this.
http://mail-abuse.org/dul/gateways.htm

How to route through your isp's mail server.

Not sure if that is outdated or not (Something I was going to read soon)
