The second one looks cleaner to me, but there are a few easy ways to make it more friendly.

First of all, lose the animated gifs, so many of them are very annnoying. If they weren't animated, it'd be fine but all the bopping arrows is driving me nuts! o.O

I like the table idea on the first page, it might be cleaner to do something similar on the second version. If you could shorten the link titles and put them into a borderless table with wide cellspacing/padding it might be easier to read, but that's just a maybe.

If that doesn't work, then just don't center them all. Make it so that each line of text starts at the same point, but not right up against the nav bar. Know what i mean? again, a table would work. just put it all in a table, then put the center tags around the whole table, not the text.

Otherwise it is very clean and easy to look at. Good job.

And do plan on using SSI so that it's much easier to maintain your pages

That's better!
A few tiny alterations I would make if it was my own page:

I would put "Advertise in our Classified section for free"
centered, both in the middle of the table and middle of the line.

I would see what happens if I move "Visit our new equine health pages" up a line, so it's directly under the previous text.

And I would maybe change the following text which starts:
"FREE animated gifs..." to something that fits on one line,
such as: "FREE animated Horse gif's".

This is to avoid there being loads of lines too close together, either through hyperlinks or lines in the table!

Otherwise, it's looking nice!

Hi,
The page with the messy list of links was my original, I changed the pages over after posting my question
ok, i have changed the table sizes, the 2 with pics are still big but now they are exactly 2x the size of the rest.
Also the text is bigger.
I remover "for sale" and replaced it with "Free" because it looked like the horse was for sale & it's not

Any other suggestions / ideas appreciated

Thanks

Tony

I much prefer the original one, not the model 2.
The latter is more messy with the list of text links.
Also they don't stand out very well.

The first one is better, because there is more structure to the links (in the table), and there's more space.

However, I think the height of the table rows need to be the same throughout!
The second and third rows are too big, and the next two also look odd because one is half the height of the other!

I would suggest that they could all be about the same as the fourth one currently is!

Also, I like the bold text used for "Forum" and "Shop" and "For Sale" - but I would consider making some of the other text a bit bigger as well.
It needs to just stand out a bit more, I think!

Hope that helps.

Dave.

Looking to design a site without HTML?
http://www.adplacing.com/ad/80.asp?id=DE9033
