Missing a critical point

The purose is clear:: get the domain names.
Now every body focuses on when the domain name
will be released. The real question is how can
you get it.

You have to realize even if yo know that the domain
name will be release today, you may not be able
to register because many people may want the
same domain name. This is true for those desirable
domain names.

Many companies and individuals use modern technologies
to register the expired domain names they want. A man without
a modern tech weapon in no way can compete with them well equipped. You got to figure some other way.

John

It seems to me what some places like netzero.com are doing is registering an expired domain they were registrar for to themselves. A domain I wanted that expired is now renewed for one year by THEM!!!!

So I sent them email asking if its for sale and they said yes. I made an offer and am waiting to hear back. . .

When I started up, the domain I wanted was a year from expiry so I was forced to compromise as well and go with a variation on the .com. During the interim, Canada loosened it's restrictions on registering .ca domains so I grabbed that one (I'm Canadian). Once I finally got the original domain, I found myself with 3 - the least desirable of which being the most firmly entrenched

While I am slowly migrating away from the original domain name, I have every intention of keeping the other two.

My point? Ah, I knew I had one somewhere...

Try to get your name with a different extension (.net or your national extension for example ) rather than a different .com - It will be a little less confusing if and when the .com becomes available. In fact, you may be more likely to keep both.

3 months is a real long way.

I am ready with my project just wanting to get that domain of my and I should be launching the site.

I guess I will have to rethink the idea for a new domain if it is not released soon.

thanks a lot.

I sat on "death watch" for my .com for many months. If I remember correctly, there is a 60 day grace period for re-registration then the domain is put into a queue for re-release. This could take another couple of weeks or more.

If you REALLY want the name, my suggestion is to do what I did - make it your morning ritual to do a whois on the domain. I eventually got the one I was seeking but it was a good 3 months after the expiration date.

Good luck!

I want a domain regsitered with OpenSRS.com which expired on 30th May 2001.

How long do you think before this site could come up for sale.

And it's not that hot a domain that there would be too many people running for it.

If anyone has ever got a domain expired after a long period of time let me hear from you.

Thanks & BYE !

Hi Marc,

It's an old thread, anyway it may help.

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10569&highlight=deleted+domain

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10587&highlight=expired+domain

It seems NSI has some connections with greatdomains.com an auction site, so maybe that's why some good expired domains may have been sold to them or put for sale by NSI.

I am not certain, so please don't quote me.
