Using tables is fine and dandy. The major benefit of using tables is cross browser capability. However there are browsers that do not support frames or handle them poorly. Using a form field would work for text, however it would look like a normal form field in browsers without CSS support. Another idea would be to use layers and a little DHTML. ASM SCROLLER 2.0 is one of the best scripts available for this task and provides fairly decent capability (IE/NS 4.0+). You can see a simple demo at http://www.aisinternet.com/etc/dhtmlscroll/

Hey everyone!

I think I found out, how to produce a manually-scrollable area!

It's possible in NN and IE if you create a *nawsty* combination of several framespages. The scollable area is nothing more than a downsized frame then.

I think you mean an iframe (inline frame), which only runs on IE...

as far as I know nobody managed to get something like it to work in NS...(yet???)
