browser script

ok ill be specific now. this site is for a independent record label the reason im asking for this script is because all of the artists are not to bright when it comes to an 'aol browser' or internet explorer. the site will only be viewed on the win platform. I previous had a vb script that would accomplish the task but its been a long time since i had it and i can't find the resoure that I had. As far as programming goes anything can be accomplished if you have the right resources, even launching browsers opening programs and the sort. I had a script that when you clicked a link it would close the browser if not ie launch ie take you to the page, than open outlook type a message, send the message, then open back the browser you were using. it looked like it closed the browser but to the users surprise the page that they had opened would come back. the message that it typed was kind of rude but it was a joke showing programming skills. also the message that it sent didnt get sent at all it just looked like that.

So anyone with a script that i mentioned like 2 threads ago if available please email or post.

Thanks

toneatlas, Detox is right. You can not choose someone's browser for them. That is one thing that they still have control over. Now you could probably cause Netscape to crash easy enough or detect the browser and redirect them or pop-up a message. There is no way legally that you could launch IE on their computer. You are also making the assumption that everyone in the world uses Windows and has IE on their computer. They do not.

Quote: this web site is for a targeted audience its not a search engine site its for a company with employees and other record labels

If it is such a targeted audience why can't you tell them the browser to use.

Quote: people dont like webmasters having that control, but you know what... we do.

No you really don't.

I am like Adam. If I went to a site that was able to accomplish this feat, I would never go there again. I would probably also email you and complain and then post my story in every forum on the internet. Anyone still using Netscape is either Anti-MS or a Netscape lover or both. If you did do this, you would never hear the end of it from them.

Thanks

If I wanted to be really to be vicious, I would have a browser test on entry to my site, and redirect Netcrap users to the IE5 download page on Microsoft itself. Probably giving them a curt little message at the same time, and asking them if they also drove beige volvo's!

But I wouldn't ever do that....maybe/maybe not. The point is that although we would like to treat all netscape users like lepers (which in my opinion they are not, just poor misguided souls) you can't initialise / execute programs like that from the server on the clients PC.

Make your site compatible for Netscape.

If you could get that to work, do you have any idea how annoying it would be? People don't want webmasters to have that type of control. I'd never visit a site again if it did that (I hate those "no right click" and "windows that open on close" as well).

I highly doubt you'll be able to make it work because browsers are designed to act independently of all other applications. The clients MIME types would play too much of a role and client setup would cause all kinds of variations.
