I think it is a great idea and something that would be beneficial to a lot of members.

Counters and Statistics would technically go in the server-side category for those of us who are advanced enough to be using our own custom or packaged tools. But for the rest of the community these would be considered 3rd party services (or hosted tools – whatever you want to call it). A "tool" is pretty broad. Where a program/application/software is something you install and execute on your server (or workstation) and a service is something you signup for or purchase rights to, use/integrate into your web site, and where the core functions remain on the providers server.

I think adding a "webmaster tools" forum would be a good idea and might help direct some of the questions more specifically. The forum could be for packaged tools (e.g. software you would run on your workstation or server) and hosted tools (e.g. internet services such as HitBox or ListBot). A lot of discussions could be started "what’s your favorite free HTML editor", "list your top ten design tools", "who here uses Illustrator for web design", "opinions on statistic services for my site", "any advice on statistic software" and so on.

Yeah something like that.

FOr example, Hitbox is a great site that can provide tons of details on visitors, that could be listed under a web site stat thread or something.
There are also many mailing list tools out there. I currently use listbot.com for some, but its kind of expensive. Tools like this could be compared.

I disagree - counters and web statistics don't usually fit into the Server-Side Scripting forum.

How not? I don't see it ever being done client side.

I kinda see where your coming from. You want something like a 'Site Management' forum, right?

Actually, I think it's a good idea. A lot of members come here asking for help in finding resources for their site. I disagree - counters and web statistics don't usually fit into the Server-Side Scripting forum.

Each of those items could be filed into an existing forum.

web site statistics, counters, and mailing lists must run server-side.

etc. could go anywhere
