Those pill shaped buttons look better now that they've got some text on them, but I think the text kind of looks distorted for some reason.

I agree the site is looking more polished now, but also think that the top buttons should be more centered.

I think you have done a really good job here, congratulations

I like the layout. Looks very clean. I like how you changed the left hand side navigation. Pretty smooth. Have you tried moving the buttons at the top over to the right so that they will be centered with the body of the page? Also, some highlight or movement effects of some sort would liven up the buttons. Other than that...it is good in my opinion but we all know what opinions are like....LOL

Happy designing!!!

Ooh, i like it. It's clean but sophisticated n stuff. But... I don't really understand why there is a dollar symbol as the background, it looks okay but is kinda distracting as it doesn't seem to fit the site to me.

The space between the nav bar and the buttons is just a tad odd.... if it was little bit wider or not there at all it might fix that, but it's a nit-picky thing, really.

The bordered table on the nav bar is nice, but would be nicer if there was some space between it and the side of the page.

On the nav bar you have headings that are highlighted the same way the links are on mouse-over, which makes it confusing to people like me who are tired or just stupid? anyways, get rid of the arrow on those or change the color of highlighting or something is my sggestion.

God job, i like it.

Check it out now, I have made some updates and changes.. - Note - remember I am looking for the design side of things before I begin to refine it and before it starts getting too complicated to start making changes.

Primary Browser Specs - MSIE, 800 x 600 plus.

PS: We are looking for webmasters to update certain portals. As of now there isn't much my friend can offer but free advertising and referals. Also, I urge you to take a look at the long run and there will be great profits at the end of the road.

I wouldn't be designing this site if I didn't believe it myself. So if you see a section that seems intriguing to you and you would like to write about it or post some news and intresting happenings on that topic once or twice a week...contact me at graham@theflexeffect.com. By the way, technology is reserved my me .

Thanks, I know about all the problems with NN and IE..I haven't even begun to work those out yet. Right now I am looking at the design side of this..graphics usage and such. But I will keep all your points in mind when I decide to actually deal with those nasty problems.

I think I will put a blurb about what the site is about where that big logo is that my the site's owner designed would work nicely ..Like I said earlier, I haven't even added links yet, navigation isn't finished. It would just be easier to get the design aspect out of the way before I start programming the damn thing.

Actually I am designing the portal for a friend, for free..A portal/search engine in the portfolio looks pretty cool . Also, free advertising etc..it's not such a bad deal and all I have to do is design it. The Search engine, email, shop, auctions and spidering is all up to him. I just run it

Hmmm.... I'm looking at it in NS 6 and NS 4.73 and it looks fine in both (except there's a little bit of space at the top of the page in 4.73 - not a huge problem). Oh, and for some reason your stylesheet isn't working properly.

The first problem I have is that i don't know what this site is about. Is it a portal I guess? Now that I'm reading I can see that. It doesn't look like a traditional portal and that might throw people a bit.

As for the deisgn, it's not bad, but could use some small changes. First of all, get rid of that space between the top header part and the blue bar on the left side. I will assume tha those pill shaped things are supposed to be for additional navbar items. The header at the top - it looks like you've got two slightly different graphics there. I kinda like the one on the right better, move that all the way to the right of the screen - there'll be room for an ad banner in there once that's done.

Also, get rid of the bit "ISO Pages" in the middle of the screen with the big ugly drop shadow effect. Also get rid of the HR and move the search and directory to the top of the page. It's important to get your content above the fold as much as you can.

Good luck with this - starting a portal and getting people to use it has got to be a very tough job!

NS vs IE as always!!

I would assume that you have built this site on a larger screen size with your installed browser being IE.

I have just checked the site out using IE5.5 and everything looks like it is where it should be!!

A couple of points though -

- The horizontal rule does look a bit odd, but then I wouldn't have put the ISO Pages logo that you have got above it there either. It takes up too much room on a smaller screen and you already have a logo/banner at the top of the page.

- Also on a smaller screen you get a scroll bar at the bottom which looks ugly. If you have got a big screen type this into the address bar javascript:resizeTo(800,600) and that will resize your browser exactly to the smaller size so you can see what it looks like.

- The "pill shaped thingies" at the top, to me, look like there should be something inside them, links or something.

Other than that I like the overall feel of the site

You have no meta tags, nothing for certain search engines to index.

Why do you have a horizontal rule below your logo? It looks awkward.

If you are going to work with a left hand border, you need to use tables so that text does not overlap into the left hand border.

I don't understand your site's purpose. Some text up top telling me it's raison d'etre ("that's Fray-unch" for "reason for being") would be nice.

I would turn off the table borders.

Did you mean for the "top.gif" to be at the bottom of the page? Perhaps this is one of those cases where Netscape doesn't read things the same as IE? And there are five pill-shaped thingees, but one comes out on a line below the other four in 800x600.

And your nav bar is completely at the bottom, so I'm betting it *is* a NS vs. IE issue. If you don't care what your page looks like in NS 4.x, I really don't care either. But if you saw it how I see it, you might think that it's worth caring about users with other browsers. Or not.

You should add a privacy policy if you expect people to sign up for anything.
