You're in the right place. Most people here seem to be in that intermediate place.

Cyber-Crew is a mix of hobbiest and pros -- seriously. Very mixed.

The sad fact is that when you are a newbie there are 10,000 resources. When you are in the middle, that shrinks to about 1,000 and by the time you're writing the books, there are like 5 people you can ask. It's the nature of learning an area.

At some point you'll find yourself only answering questions, then one day you'll open a door and find the other bazillion things you didn't even know existed and you'll be back to square one.

I think that some of you misunderstood my question. When i say the little guys, i don't mean newbies. I mean people who are intermediate, and even more advanced at authoring and design but who don't have professional websites and are just hobbiest webmasters. I know that there are plenty of websites out there for the new webdesigner, that tell how to put an image on a page, make a link and use tables. There are also other websites for the advanced webdesigners that write articles about browser wars, and java and such, but I'm an inbetween. I'm an intermediate, i have a pretty extensive knowledge of just plain html, but i don't know much about java and all those other scary things. I don't have a professional website, onlly a dink personal one. I like making websites though, and i havn't found any resources for people like me. Sites that give ways to use simple techniques for advanced-looking results, or that give a run down on other types of languages that someone who has already been doing this sort of thing for awhile would understand without feeling like it's being dumbed-down. I don't know, maybe there just aren't many people that are like me. Thanks for the replies everybody, I appreciate it

It has everything that you need to know to build great web sites for fun or profit.

When I was learning a long time ago, I visit the site very often, sometimes spending hours and I really learnt a lot.

I'm currently in the process of starting up a network of web developer help sites, which will be more geared towards those that are new to web design.

Some articles i've decided to write are:

Rounded corners on tables.
Images for form buttons
Static backgrounds
Changing hover over colours on links

I've come up with about 25 different areas of design basics like those mentioned above and hope to cover them all in the near future.

You have to understand that sites like SitePoint and WDVL are focusing on indermediate and advanced web development techniques, not how to put a picture in a web page. If you search around, you'll find a good amount of sites that have beginner tutorials.

Come over to cyber-crew.com and poke around the forums. Some are public forums and we all answer all sorts of questions, from the newbiest to the pro. Mostly generic design and resource questions, in fact.
