I agree with Justin, The CIH Virus(Bad Taiwanese Guy) totally wiped out all your harddisk table header format and all data from your harddisk cannot be access. But if you had NORTON ANTIVIRUS installed then, you could easily fix your header format of your harddisk and get it to work without much problem.

I got a virus about a year ago that completely wiped out my computer. I believe it was the CIH virus, or whatever it was called. No clue how I got it.

Yes! The attachment is the virus, if you open the attachment and install it, it does something horrible to your hard drive (no sure exactly what) I get it sent to me about once a week and it comes through from "hahaha" with the message "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs the real story" but my Norton AntiVirus deletes the attachment.

Well, I definitely haven't/won't open that attachment, but I was just worried if I simply read the message, it would give me the virus. Those do exist you know, that's how I got the KAK virus. Unfortunately, Norton Antivirus won't scan all my e-mail before I receive it like it used to for some reason. I get the exact same e-mail as you described, though.

I got the KAK virus last year but it didn't really do anything, although it was a bugger to get rid of. Keep getting the "snow white & the seven dwarfs" one right now but have got a virus detection attached to outlook so that catches it!
ps. I was able to vote

I also had a KAK virus a few months ago... Norton Antivirus caught it right away and I removed it harmlessly. What does that "snow white & the sven dwarfs" have to do with anything? I also get that REGULARLY with an attachment, but I never opened it. Is that the virus? Explain!

P.S. I can't control whether that poll works or not. It's up to Chad.

I got that Kak virus as well and nothing happened. I also got the love bug virus about 6 months ago. The was AWFUL! It destroyed all of my jpgs. BUT...I had just backed everything up 3 nights before. So out of 1000+ images I probably lost only about 10. Phew!

I have a floppy infected with a virus I use to test virus scanning software. But other than that I don't think I've been hit with one. Don't download too much these days anyway.

Yes, and it wasn't my fault. And it still plauges me... it goes through the network, and we have 3 PC's. I've cleaned mine before, but I just got re-infected... need to do all 3 at once, but I'm too lazy.
