When I originally put these names together, I thought it might result in a discussion like this. I had however hoped that everyone would take it for a meaning other than the obvious and I had hoped no one would be offended.

I would like to use a set of titles that no other forum uses... If anyone can come up with a set, please post them.

For the time being, I have updated all titles to NSS's suggestions. They are a bit boreing but they should not offend anyone, which is probably better.

And who knows, we may end up enabling Avatars anyway, so this wouldn't matter. But I have yet to decide on this.

Again, I apologize if anyone was offended. I can see Megan's point and it is very valid and one that I had not considered. It is also one that I agree with. The "drug" relations are stretching it a bit, but hey, everyone has their own opinion

Megan:

I understand what your saying.

Personally though I could care less what my title is. It is just the title that a website gives me with people who I will probably never meet. It is not the end of the world to have a title called "Beginner" or anything else. It is not like you spend your whole life on this site and people only know you by the title, it is just to show how many posts you have. Glad to express my opinion hope some people agree with me.

I have to say, addict and junkie are fine by me..... It was in the interest of discussion that I put forth those two handles. Like I said before , My handle is detox and I have a company called detoxdezigns. I don't have a problem with a laugh and a joke. Life is too short to quible over names we give people who post here.

I totally agree NSS.

Parker - my point is that there could easily be people here who know just as much, if not more, about certain topic areas as the moderators do. Honestly, I don't consider myself an "expert" in either of the subjects I moderate. Yes, I do know a fair bit about design, but I certainly wouldn't assume that there couldn't be some regular members who know more. It's not fair to them to say that even though you may be very knowledgable and helpful on the forums, the people who have been named moderators automatically know more than you. That's what the "expert advisor" thing seems to say I think. That's rediculous IMHO.

I would suggest that we use the safe method and forget any inovative titles as the quality of help to webmasters will determine the future success or failure of TWF.

This way, it doesn't offend anyone and also let new members feel they are welcome and there's no discrimination.

Now:
TWF Beginner
TWF Enthusiast
TWF Junkie
TWF Addict
TWF Expert & Advisor
TWF Expert & Team Leader
TWF Exper & Administrator

Suggested:
TWF Enthusiast
TWF Member
TWF Senior Member
TWF Veteran
TWF Moderator
TWF Moderator & Team Leader
TWF Administrator

Megan:

I think I stated this before and I'll say it again. I am pretty sure the Expert and Advisor title only goes to moderator's. So if you are a moderator you probably are pretty good at what you are in charge of.

I've been thinking about this and teh "TWF Expert and Advisor" thing is really starting to bother me. Just because I have 600 and however many posts doesn't mean I'm more of an "expert" or "advisor" than someone who has just recently joined us.

Marc, if thing's were as easy as 'lighten up' I'm sure the world would be a much better place. If you are truly trying to project TWF as being a community board then you shouldn't just tell someone to "deal with it," take your members concerns on board and do something about it. If someone has a problem with something, they most likely have a good reason and as a moderator, leader, or administrator those problems should be dealt with accordingly.

With that said, I'm not suggesting you change the names, as it doesn't appear as though anyone is offended by them. However, I am trying to say if someone finds it offensive, don't just 'brush it off'..discuss the matter and see if you can reach some compromise.

Ravi

Quote: Originally posted by detox

If I were to suggest something, it would only be replace junkie and addict with something more generic like
intermediate and advanced.

I disagree. I think we should keep names like junkie, addict, etc. They are more appealing, interesting, and attractive than boring names like advanced, intermediate, etc. It gives things some flavor. And if you have a problem with the "addict" label here, I don't know what to say. I never even put drugs and the title here, addict, together until reading this thread. If someone is offended, so be it. You can't live your live based on assumptions. Rest assured, someone is going to get offended by something here eventually. I doubt anyone would seriously be offended if they say the title "addict" here. Other popular forums use it and not one, I mean no one, has complained about it. It's all in good fun. Folks, lighten up!

should I be joining this thread with a tag like detox?!!

Anyway, this is sort of related to another thread in the general chat forum posted by Parker Trasborg. Poor parker made 1 comment and all of a sudden we're all trying to qualify what makes someone worthy of being called an expert.

It's not like we're all in the same office and know each others strengths and weaknesses. In every office you know who is best at what and if you have a question, who to ask. The only way is to feel your way around here and over time recognize those who really are experts and those who are not. The important thing is the sharing of knowledge.

If I were to suggest something, it would only be replace junkie and addict with something more generic like
intermediate and advanced.

the only way to qualify anyone as an expert is to actually review what they say and grade it. But I know that is not what this place is all about. Once again the important thing here is the sharing of knowledge.

I know this is a long post but i am at work, so I had some spare time!!!!!
