As for Director 8 I am not too familiar with the lay out so I can not help you there. Director is Director though.

in your movie script (cntrl+shift+U) add this

on startmovie
set the stagecolor = 0
end

that will get your stage to black.

Now changing your stage without affecting your layout. Can't be done.

you need to get a copy of director for the pc to burn a pc disc. I know that you can do an ISO 9660 burn(hybred) but I have yet to get one to work.

Now for your autostart.
Mac: Done with the burning software you use. TOAST?(I am not a mac guy)

PC: open notepad and add this to it.

[autorun]
open = whatever.exe

and save the file as autorun.inf
