I bought my HP CD-RW drive last summer and apparently it came with the older version of Easy CD Creator - which doesn't convert for me.

I'm sure there are sharewares that convert .wav to .mp3. I needed to convert my .mp3 files to .wav to burn them, and I found a simple and free one from hotfiles.com. Also, try download.com. Good luck!
