There's a script written by Max Albert at

You may want to try it if your Host doesn't provide sub-domains for your main account

In my opinion, choose a Host that provide free sub-domains or at least a limited number for your main domain.

Some Hosts charge for it and some don't offer such a feature as chicken mentioned as it's considered also as a full account to them.

It's better in the long run that your Host has this option as you never know when you may need it as your site become more complex.

Regards,

Ask your host if they will set up a subdomain for you. Sometimes hosts allow a certain amount of subdomain and point them to directories under your domain name like:

music.sandculture.com = sandculture.com/music

-and sometimes they set the subdomains up as full accounts. One to ask the host.

Alternatively, if this solution doesn't work out for you, you could try something lese, but I'd suggest to first see what your host says.

The other thing I was talking about is using a service like:
http://www.mydomain.com/services/mydns/hostnames
