    <description> &lt;p&gt;Thanks very much for your advice, I email my host support and it seems that certain .htaccess code can&#039;t be overide as you mentioned except by the host. Anyway I am having some fun experimenting with the many SSI tags just to gain some experience. &lt;/p&gt;

    <description> &lt;p&gt;public_html is often the directory in a unix user&#039;s home directory where their public webpage is stored, so that when a person goes to &lt;a href=&quot;http://blah.com/~username/&quot; class=&quot;bb-url&quot;&gt;http://blah.com/~username/&lt;/a&gt;, the httpd goes to the ~username/public_html/ to look for files.&lt;br /&gt;
You might not be able to do AddType and AddHandler in your htaccess file because some hosts restrict what can be done in htaccess files.  Some only allow overriding the authorization settings, while others might allow overriding everything.  However, I think if apache doesn&#039;t like what you&#039;re putting in a htaccess, it just ignores it, so that suggests to me that you&#039;ve got something wrong with your code that you are trying to execute/parse.&lt;/p&gt;
