&lt;p&gt;XML is a great &quot;staging&quot; area for data but it is not meant to replace an Enterprise Database system like Oracle or SQL Server 2000, while the XML parser is fast and efficient it could never compete with a full fledged database server when dealing with large recordsets.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If he moved to Oracle 8i or SQL 2000 he could still keep his XML structure since these database systems support reading and writing of XML documents.&lt;/p&gt;
