Quote: If you're serious about going into web development, I'd take a look @ DreamWeaver, from Macromedia. It's the best WYSIWYG (visually-based) editor I've seen.

I agree I do like it alot

But I quite like using Flash and it uses ActionScript (well Flash 4 does) anyway it's lovely to work with because you have a Windows environment for learning a form of programing which then you can upgrade to Flash 5 which uses JavaScript still in a windows based environment

http://www.htmlgoodies.com is a good site for beginners (although his writing style can be rather annoying...). There are tons and tons of beginner HTML tutorials out there - you shouldn't have a problem finding one.

Which ones should I be looking at? Also do you know of any online HTML guides then

To answer your last question, there ARE many web page editors coming out for the Windows environment, making web page creation a little more user friendly. In a sense, everyone CAN create a web site. However, NOT everyone can create a _good_ web site.

Although you might be able to pull off the creation of a web site without knowing some coding, as Megan said it's not advisable.

It's just I was going though exercises on Dreamweaver and not once did it take me into the "text editor". I hope you are right....ok I am learning to use Flash 4 at the moment and yes you do need a understanding of what’s known as "ActionScript" (a form of coding). But the interface is windows based and very user friendly, so it a breeze to use.

I am just wondering now if web paging is going though a similar change as Operating Systems did in the change over from DOS to Windows based OS's......but then again I could be completely wrong here!? What do you think?

Possible? Maybe. Advisable? No.

If you're not into the scripting end of things, you can certainly concentrate on design. I have had a couple of interviews for design jobs that didn't require more than basic HTML. Learn to use all the big software packages, and study animation (Flash, Director etc.). Programming, mark-up (HTML) and design are separate things now for most medium-large design companies now so it is possible to have a career in one without being an expert at the others. It would be good, though, to know how the other end works even if you can't do it yourself.
