Yeah, I'd say that's very good. HostWay is one of the better hosting companies out there, and I'm sure they'll satisfy your needs. Good luck, and good choice!

thanks for the reply, justin. it was helpful.

I called Hostway and went over my options with a very helpful operator. I wound up with Dual 650 MHz Pentium 3 processor, 15 GIG HD, 384 RAM, 50 GIG monthly transfer, and options for 5 IP's. Also, this is a hostway managed system ($150 extra mo.) because I'm not sure I have the skills to admin the server myself. I got the whole deal for $900 per month.

Hopefully, I did the right thing. I am comfortable and happy with hostway and, at least, have peace of mind that I am with a good company.

Whatcha think? Am I getting a decent deal?

thanks!

Jack

For $1000 you could easily get a dedicated server that would fit your needs. I'd say seach through this forum and other hosting forums like http://www.webhostlink.com and see what people are saying about the various dedicated server companies. One of the popular ones is http://www.rackspace.com although I've never used them. You also need to take into consideration whether or not you have the skills to admin the server. If you can't, then I'd recommend going with a company that has the software for you to admin the server such as http://www.vdi.net or http://www.alabanza.com . Finally, here are some tips for what you should look for in a dedicated server...

- At least 256MB RAM. I'd say get as much as you can since you're using many CGI programs like UBB...

- Dual Pentium 3 processors (maybe each at 500MHz-700MHz) would be a good idea as well since you have many CGI programs like UBB...

- SCSI components...
