....but have you checked what resolution the computers are set on? That could goof up tables, text and everything!

Just a suggestion...... hope you get it figured out...

Hi Ken,

You shall also learn that IE for the Mac doesn't like a lot more than just css. Sorry, but the Mac isn't very high on M$'s priority list

They have 4, count 'em FOUR articles on Fear of StyleSheets.

Lots and lots of information.

Otherwise, http://www.carterjackson.com/index/links.htm#css has a pile of links, including the MasterGrid from webreview, which is invaluable.

P.S. Be prepared to have text slightly different even using pixels, in Netscape and IE. IE artificially inflates the font size.

I had no idea that CSS works different across diff. platforms. Weird. I though IE supported "ALL" css..guess I was wrong again. I found a way to eliminate my problem. But it involves using the line-height attribute. And it doesn't work in IE 4.5 on a Mac. But it works on IE 4.5 on Windows.

Just thought I would tell everyone my findings. I'm learning more today about the functionality of html and CSS then I did in the past 2 years.

Vince,
I'm looking at it on a Mac and a PC. I did check the preferences in both browsers. I even went and hooked up another mac in my office, so I could make sure it wasn't something in my preferences. I am going to give the pixel method a try. If that doesnt' work...welp..um..I guess I'll just kick my own ars.

Best hope for a cross OS/cross browser solution is CSS defining font size as pixels (px) and that isn't 100%, but is probably as close as you'll get.

Ken,

I just checked the test.html with IE 5.0 & NN 4.6 (pc win98) -- they look virtually the same. Are you looking at it with a Mac? Did you check the preferences for the browsers you're using?

Well I tried CSS, but it doesn't work neither. I used 11pt and then viewed it here. Looked great! Viewed it on the IBM and it is like 2 sizes larger...

Dang...I don't know what I'm gonna do. It looks like crap on an IBM....I don't want to have to forward them depending on their operating system neither. That would just plain...well it wouldn't be good.

[edit]
just read your post. We submitted them about the same time. I did the CSS testing on bmid.html since all of it was controlled by CSS anywayz. And that's how I came up with these problems. I don't even remember why I put that many font tags...I know there was a reason.

you can view the CSS version @:

http://www.ifae.com/test/test.html
[/edit]

Let me know if you come up with anything else Vince.

Hi Ken,

Took a quick glance.
1) You might want to kill all the "font size=-2" statements since those are telling the browser to change the size relative to what it displays. An absolute size ( might be better.
2) Also, if you placed the blurbs within their own cells, you would have more control over the alignment or you can define as centered or left-justified with css.
3) I couldn't read the image on the right -- the text in it was too dark -- I think the top line said "Participating...."

Well I took that into account, and I will give it a try.

here is the url if you want to take a look.

http://www.ifae.com/test/fright.html

that is the start page...the pages that are in question are the more text oriented ones....

http://www.ifae.com/test/fleft.html
http://www.ifae.com/test/bmid.html

Take a look, I will try to use CSS to do it, and I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your help Vince,
