we actually made some plans for a local internet cafe in germany (financed by IBM+HP).

We have 2 Servers (mail+proxy+http+ftp+home, etc).
These are:
AMD K6-II 400, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD, 3*100MBit Ethernet each
The 32 clients are:
AMD K6 ~200 (I can't remember), 128MB RAM( we got it free, so we took more ), 1GB HD (very cheap used ones), 10MBit Ethernet

It all ran linux, only the essentials where installed on the clients, everything else came from the servers.

We have a 2Mbit/s laserlink connected through both(!!) servers. The internal network uses six-port 10/100 HUBs in two layers.

The first time users come to the cafe they pay ~10$ and get an account. They can "overdraw" their account to up to 50% of their monthly usage, so regulars can pay at the end of the month via direct debit...

It is all working quite happily,
but we had to buy some new monitors (we used old ones first)
since we got lots of complains.

Oh yes, we used debian since this makes installing, updating and reinstalling the clients very easy.
(You just put one disk in them and all is fine )

Hi,

You probably need an ISDN(128Kbps) as DSL is virtually not available and a dedicated or lease line in Asia region is very expensive and you may need the following for your system:

1)Server/Client software
2)Router and modem(ISDN)
3)Hub 12, 24, port type.
4)OS - win95/98 or NT
5)NIC for each client computer.
6)If you have win98 second edition or NT operating system installed, you also can configure it to share networking and modem for your system.
