Small update:

So far I found out, the MySQL Database doesn't just duplicate the threads, but also give them some new IDs and stuff which makes it even worse.
The only way I can think of is to dump the whole database in flat-text, parse it thru a script and restore the database. Anyway this will result in a small period of approx. one hour when nobody will be able to post. So I'll probably better do it tomorrow morning when all of our US-visitors are asleep

Or is somebody else here having a better idea?

yep, double member post has been fixed. And we have a script to fix the double posts (thanks to some tremendous support from VB John). Patrick will try and run it later today.
