I've noticed a lot of validators are pieces. They don't recognize when you are trying tomake somehting work on both NN and IE. i.e. take sound embeding. Theyll say each browser doesn't support the tag, yet the browser will only recognize one of the two you put in the html. Ifthat makes any sense. I do like the I think its CSS html Evaluator. Something like that. Overall I would ignore what the evaluator tells you about Javascript. Test the script exstensively on mult browsers and I think you've validated it.

Sorry if it doesn't make any sense. I'm still scratching my head a little.

Thank you bwilmot

I think the left menu column need to be just that, a menu column so I will remove the extra text and just have a menu - cheers.

I put the buttons on to add the color I am lacking at the moment, I have way too many links and not enough content, so the idea of the buttons was to replace some of my links and add some color (and movement) to each page. This would then leave me with some space for a little more content.

All this info is logged and will be acted upon. I think TWF is an excellent resource for newbies like moi.

some extra info:
I try and validate my code, but find that third part javascripts etc. won't validate for one reason or another and am loathe to 'edit' the scripts to make them validate.
Your views on this practice? I know I should write my own scripts but java ain't my best subject at the mo

Ok Colors are good. Just need to work on their application.

The topo nav I like. I don't think its too blurry. Great effects.

LEft menu needs larger text(at least). I would take away some of the description. The text gets lost.

I think there are too many buttons on the right column. I know its a personal site and thus think putting the readers eyes on adds is not the intention.

Overall a good start. Listen to the above comments. They are right on.

Cheers Randall

I could probably do a better design for my nav bar, but hey I am NO designer and it shows

It has been said (a few times!) I need to lighten my pages up and get away from black, which I am toying with doing as soon as I can, then I can add some punch/color. I made the mistake of including a small black area of my navbar around the edge to fit in with my 'then' black pages, I should have gone transparent! DOH!

Those are pretty cool photoshop effects on your top navigation. While I favore navigation on the left side, it looks pretty good. Maybe add a color or two to the page to spice things up?

Justin, thanks for the tips and your comments.

The nav bar is my first attempt at using PhotoShop and yes I did make a bit of a cock-up on the image flip. It needs improving agreed.

Main content area same as the logo/nav bar, cool idea.

A 1px seperator cell in between the menus and content area, there is a seperator column in between those, I think it's set to 9px, is that the sort of thing you meant?

Thanks again
Don

Welcome, and thanks for posting at TWF! Ok, here we go...

1) It looks unorganized from my point of view. Here's what I would do to fix this: add 1px table cells in between the menus and the content area so it gives the feel of a seperator.

2) The logo/nav is pretty blurry over here. Also, it's really hard to tell that you have a image flip going on. I think the flip image needs to be a different color or something.

3) I would make the main content are table the same width as the top menu/logo.
