Ok, guys, thanks a lot again for your help. I'll put a video clip onto the homepage that's small (about 2 MB) and one that one can download (up to ...MB, let's see what I get from the creator...).

Have a nice day.

Fast servers do play a part, however the user's connection is even more important. You must have a fairly fast connection (e.g. cable, DSL, etc.) to download a 50 MB movie in 1/2 hour.

I believe that's not quite true.
You could, verifibly, put a movie clip that was like.. 16 Megs on your homepage--provided you have fast servers supporting it.
[I say sixteen because I once did download a movie that was like fifty megs and it took me under a half an hour.]

Anyways, as I suggested it would be best if you use a 'High Bandwidth' and 'Low Bandwidth' version. The High Bandwidth wouldn't really matter about the size, but the Low Bandwidth would need to be, as you said, around 1,000-2,000 Kilobytes.

Of course, it all depends on the movie's size.

As I said in your last thread, if the user can choose to download the video clip, then it can be up to 1Mb-2Mb. But if it's embedded into the page (which it looks like you'll do) then I wouldn't make it bigger then 100Kb-200Kb.

Hallo Mike,

well, thank you very much for your information. It was very helpful.

Again: this is proof that I get my answers in the USA a lot faster than in the squareheaded GERMANY, where everything is "secret" and nobody really wants to help newcomers.

[I love this new system. ;)]

Anyways...
1). Depends, really. There's .MOV, .AVI, .MPG, etc. All have their quirks. Weither it's the lose of quality with .AVI, big sizes with .MPG, doesn't really matter.
It's a kind of personal preference thing.

2). Microsoft Media Player is an automatic launch utility with its supported formats--any machine that has it installed uses it automatically.

3). Depends on what your targetted audience's modem is like.
I believe--nowadays--one could very safely assume that a lot of the users have High End modems, but there is always those people who aren't lucky enough to get access.
My suggestion is to make two versions. One for low end modems--which would be of a very small size--and one for high end modems--which would display superb quality and such.

4).
Go to HTMLgoodies.com or whatever place you whent to learn how to code HTML, they usually have a tutorial for that tag.
If not, contact me at matrixshocke@hotmail.com and I'll help you.
