Bumping certainly has its place in forums, but this particular type of forum would just go out of control if bumps were allowed.

Bumping works rather well in very high-traffic forums, ie: where replies are posted every few seconds. Most of the time the people are honest enough to only bump important threads (this is my experience with a particular forum I visit). The problem we'd run into here at TWF is that people have something to gain by bumping posts: promotion. Every time their thread would get bumped, they'd get more free promotion, and it would get totally out of control.

Howdy,

As someone with quite a bit of experience in runing some of the highly-traffic forums on the Internet (ie lawnsite.com among others), I strongly vote against allowing bumping of threads -- this is a really really really bad idea and will result in long threads half of which will have nothing but

bump

bump

bump

bump

bump

You get the idea! Don't let this happen!

Have a great day, and good luck!

I personally never think about whether I am 'bumping' the subject or not, just whether I am contributing to the discussion or not. If I feel I have something to add, or a question that needs to be asked, than I will put my .02 in, and the thread will rise.

Isn't that the way it is supposed to work?

I think that if it helps the end user, it is acceptable. Usually this will help the end user, so it is usually acceptable.

I admit at times I'll toss in a little info that MIGHT be useful to someone to bump my topic a bit...as long as you're providing something which might serve a purpose it's probably acceptable...

What i meant was that, if you have some good input or need calrification on an old topic, post in it and it will come back to the top, with your useful input or query (sp)

Yes, I understand how it could easily make people mad.

I agree with Brian. I hate it when people respond to 3+ week old messages. Holy ****- thundering outside. Better go...

I find that when you reply to an old message, it goes to the top of the list, is this what you mean?

I would rather we did not do this as I see far more possible negative aspects to this that positive ones.
