Yep, it's pretty easy to just dive in with the Dubois book. It starts really simple and the progressions to the more complicated things are pretty natural and understandable. I only broke down and bought it after reading about 90 different reviews with all of them being positive. I've used a few bad programming books as fireplace kindling in my day too, but this isn't one of them.

Thanks guys for your fast replies.

I just want to know if that book by Dubois/Widenius is easy? Does it start with the beginning? (yea, yea, no smart remarks..) If not I have another book to put in the fireplace. (I really wish I had a fireplace..

The Paul DuBois book MySQL is EXCELLENT. As with all programming/technical books, it's a bit pricey, but this is one that I found to be well worth the money. List is about $50, but with a little online searching, you can probably find it in the neighborhood of $30. The ISBN is 0735709211
so check out that number at http://www.bestbookdeal.com

If you like dead-tree resources rather than on-line documentation, that's the book to buy.

Jes,

There are a few books out there. The book that I’ve seen all over and purchased a while ago is MySQL (OTHER NEW RIDERS) by Paul DuBois and Michael Widenius. The other one I’ve seen is called MySQL and mSQL. I think its part of the Nut Shell series. I remember buying it for a friend a few months ago, has two birds on the front. You may also want to look at some of the following links:

The official mySQL documentation http://www.mysql.com/doc.html

DevShed also has a good Intro to mySQL tutorial http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/MySQL/Intro/

Another DevShed tutorial on mySQL/PHP Basics http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP/DB_Basics/

Good luck,
