I think that the splash graphic is close to being really good. That wood look stuff is fading into the background too much, which is especially bad beside that sharp eagle logo. The text on the scouting definition should be bigger, and I think that the enter button should be right in the middle. I also think that the eagle should face inwards towards the center of the page - think about it, he's looking off the edge of the page!

Now, your main page had potential. What you need to learn is that good websites have a consistent look throughout the entire site. That doesn't necessarily mean that every page has to look exactly the same (most do, however), but they should at least have something in common, like the same colour scheme and basic layout format.

You're getting a horizontal scrollbar at 800 x 600 and lower because you and/or FrontPage decided to draw you a table 906 pixels wide for absolutely no good reason. Most people have their screen resolutions set at 800 x 600, and there is still a small percentage at 640 x 480, so you should keep that in mind when setting table widths and designing graphics.

You may or may not care about this, but you should really learn about good design. Look at what other pages are doing. YOu will notice that most good sites have a consistent look and navigation system. They have a menu on every page. They have a site title/logo on every page. Nobody who's serious uses Front Page - we write the HTML ourselves. There's lots to learn if you're in any way serious about this.

One of the better troop sites that I’ve seen. The splash page is not necessary but it doesn’t really do any harm (in my opinion). The only other comment I have about the site is the lack of a repetitive layout. It seems like each category has it’s own look. Which can confuse a visitor who’s trying to navigate.

The logo is cool, I think it should stay. Im talking about the logo on the main page, not the splash page. Get rid of the splash page, its unneccasary (spelling?).

I agree with Justin, the layout needs some work. Before I design a site, I sit down and draw up a navigation and layout on a peice of paper, then I put it up on the site.

I suggest you do the same.

1) The main logo splash page serves no purpose. Also- the graphic has like a "film" over top of it, and the quality isn't too good either.

2) The layout of the page isn't too good. I would make a table with a side menu and main content area, then put all the links on the menu, and take away the pictures. I would learn more about layout.

3) Once you figure out a design make each page the same, except for the content. It will be more uniformed that way.
