As a "Senior" Member with two teenagers, I'll give you a mature critique of your site. Repost your original message and I'll visit the link and give you a review. Heck, let everybody review it! Just reffer back to Matt's post on everybody's age and skip the reviews of the people that don't meet your age criteria.

I think you have stepped on quite a few toes and should repost the original message and let the critiques continue. Have the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing!

You know I am actually offended, and that doesn't happen often. If someone asks for a critique and they aren't ready to hear what the opinions are then don't post it and spare us the drama.

I find your statements about "young" people the most offensive. Probably because I am not sure where you got the idea that because you are older than many in this forum that you are some how more "mature" or better at giving a critique and I don't believe that anyone here claims to "know it all". It is statements like that that give young people a bitter taste in their mouth about people that are older than they are. Who are you to tell them what they think?!?!

The attitude I sense from your post is quite hypocritical in my opinion. Your posts are blunt and sometimes down right rude and yet someone gives you a taste of your own medicine and you can't stand it. Sounds to me like the person that needs to grow up is you. Quite honestly I am tired of the “know it all” attitude you emulate on the boards. You criticize that the sites owned by the members of this forum "are just all sooooooooooooo much alike", well isn't that just the pot calling the kettle black?

Okay I apologize for sounding snippy. I am a mom, I have a teen, I LOVE kids. I guess I just was too blunt.

A crituqe is not so much an opinion.....it's more someone commenting on the what is known to be 'good' and what is known to be 'bad'.

For example I do not like the color green. But if your site is green. I'm not going to begin with "I don't like the green."

I said in my post that I think the logo is too big...I agree with that.

My reason for reacting the way I did I guess is becuase like I stated I'd like a more 'mature' view.

For the record....there is one exteremly taleed 17 year old out there designing sites, he's GOOD...no he's SUPURB.

It just appears to me that the sites that I see here are just all sooooooooooooo much alike. There doens't seem to be a wide varity of styles.

Re Brians comment:
While I agree age isn't always a factor....it does show...I notice it most in the language skills. I can usually tell a site that's done by a 'younger person', in the first two sentences. And that is perfectly normal because they are still learning and growing and haven't fully mastered the language skills that say a 60 year old corporate head would have.

Also the younger set is more likely to be awed by the 'latest trends'. Like the last time I posted here...it was like if there are no mouseovers, there is no navigation. Someone even wondered why I had text links on top and on bottom. This person hadn't ever checked at site at 640 X 480 res???

Reallu it's like I said....I would rather have a more 'mature' approach.

Do you agree that a person who's been in publishing and or design or 8 or 9 years sure knows a lot more than someone who has taken HTML in thier sophmore year??

Well I'm done rambling...I really didn't mean to hurt any feelings....I'm not like that.

I'm brutally honest and while it's an asset, sometimes it's my downfall.

Age really doesn't matter when you are talking about designing... It's all in the ability level. Roo, as you know, this is the web site critique area. You brought up the point that you didn't want personal opinions and preferences... Well... That's all a critique really is. You're asking someone to look at your site, and they give you, from their point of view, an evaluation of whether they like everything or not.

Let's say someone reviewed your site and said that the color scheme, layout, design, etc. was great. Then, another person posted a critique, and said the color scheme wasn't all that fantastic, the layout looked too cluttered, and the design wasn't all that good either because X Y and Z.

Which of those is right? They both are. Roo, critiques are a matter of personal preference, and because everybody has a different one, there's always going to be people who like your site, and there's always going to be people that don't. The trick is to get the majority of people to like the site, and to get the ones that don't to dislike it only for a minor reason. I hope all of this makes sense... Thanks.

Well, I am an oldbie, and I think that the points about the images being too large were valid.

Design doesn't necessarily know an age, but of course more experience is sometimes helpful.

Certainly oldbies can get as stuck in their ways as relative newbies can be unaware of the nuances of design.

But since you have removed the request, I won't continue.

I would just like to add one more thing

I totally agree with Justin...I am actually 20 but i also think there is nothing wrong with people under 18. Believe it or not Roo but some of the most talented web designers you will meet are going to be under 18. I have met many in here and still amazed and thier skills and what they can do. Trust me, you can learn a lot from the younger people in here. I sure have!
I think my critique was very fair and not mean at all. This forum is for advice and i gave ya my advice. I think my critique was appropriate.

By the way, the two that critiqued your site are both over 18. So technically we are adults with "mature" advice...Even though we are both over 18, i still think the best critiques still come from the younger crowd in here. By the way Justin, I still cant believe your only 14. DANG you got a nice future ahead of you.

Whoa Whoa Whoa! Roo, I think there is a problem here. First you come in and ask us to critique your site (even though I never saw it), and now you're saying that we should grow up. Right now I'm trying to stop myself from cursing my head off, so before I do that I'll explain more.

First off bilbong30 gave a pretty good critique. And I quote:

First he states that he didn't like the logo and why: it was too big. Next he went on to say that you should add more "content" to that page. He then finally went on to say that he didn't like the buttons either because... So as you can see he was giving you his opinion on what he thought of the page. Isn't that what you were looking for?

In bilbongs' next post he said why he didn't like your layout, and why he didn't like it. He just didn't say: "I think your design sucks" and than left it at that. He gave you a critique of what he thought should be changed.

Now I see no point as to why you got so offended at this. So your site isn't perfect, but no ones is! And what the heck is wrong with people under 18 years of age? Huh? I'm 14, and so it deeply offends me that you're saying we no nothing about design.

If you didn't want to know what WE thought, then I think you shouldn't have asked. Simple as that.

It looks kinda bad to me. I don't care for your logo much. It fills up the whole first screen. I don't like the buttons either. I think the site is to dark. It doesn't look real good for a web design site.
