Thank you Suzanne! It was actually decided to use the UW colours (black and yellow), so I toned the yellow down and added some red for contrast. The other colours on there are a result of overlapping those colours and making them more transparent. Plain old Black and yellow is too C|net.

Matt and Patrick - I didn't like it at first either, but it grew on me a lot (maybe because I did it ). What is good and what you like aren't always the same thing. I usually try to warn people when I get into a personal preference.

Not to start an argument, but as far as colour choice goes, the world is a colourful place. But Megan usually notes when colours clash or behave in an otherwise unexpected manner (some colours are 'allergic' to others, causing bleeding and other bad effects). The colours on her site go very nicely, do not clash or otherwise have bad effects on each other. They may not be everyone's favourites, but they work TOGETHER very well.

Do you know what I mean by that? There is nothing inherently wrong with neon yellow and gray purple, but together they look bad. This isn't subjective, either, it is related to colour theory, which is a fairly exact science involving the frequency of light that gives us the illusion of colour in the first place.

I don't know how to say this, you never liked the colors on other people's site much, but the colors there, need work! I do like it though, keep up the good work!

I don't like it to much. Probably because there is no content. If they were content it would look good. nice colors! Way to not use blue.

I like your logo. It doesn't look bad to me. Well, not much else to say.

Thanks for the comments guys. I knew about the image quality problem, and I kind of suspsected that it would be a little tight at 800 x 600.

I didn't know if I liked the design myself early on. It grew on me though, a lot.

Suzanne - I really don't know what kind of monitors they have in the Arts labs. We're expecting that a lot of students will want to access this from home though.

I really like it. The colours go well with eachother. My resolution is 1024*768 and it looks fine.

The "Menu" is neat, but I had to view the page for a second time before I even noticed it.

I like your logo, it stands out enough in my opinion and the blur effect (intentional I think?) looks good.

Darn, so close to fitting on 800x600 resolutions...

1) The layout and the design is very unqiue, but I can't decide if I like it or not.

2) The logo, IMO, needs to be bigger, and stand out more. Also- it's blurry and not clear.

It is SO close to fitting at 800X600, but I have to roll up my toolbars. Even with high-end browsers, the students may not have larger monitors at home (has UW gone to 17" monitors now?) and 1024 on a 15" is hard on the eyes after awhile. I know a number of people who view at 800X600 on a 17" monitor as well.

Of course, if it is going to have more than a screenful of content, that doesn't matter, anyway.

Nice use of the white space to constrain the text to a viewing width. I would be interested in seeing it with content to see how the navigation holds up.

It seems that the L'Oreal (don't remember the actual artist, sorry) style of lines with coloured boxes is becoming popular again, also in the rust/autumnal colours. Very trendy!
