Thanks everyone for your replies - I am taking them all into consideration and I will see what I can do to change XRS.NET as you all mentioned.

Justin - yep about my posting at the freewebspace.net boards - I still do every so often, sometimes more frequently than others, but I do read them.

Anyway, what I think:

1) really like the site, especially the logo

2) the left menu could be a little better: you should probably make the buttons fade like the bg

3) a little more color might be nice

I think you need to run with the xtreme theme! Perhaps ad some skateboards and ramps to make it more of an extreme network.

Hey there XRS
I have to agree with Rob about the fuzzy glow, it's a good effect but I don't think it goes with the sharpness of the "stripes". I do like that striped design and the arc of your menu bar, buttons are pretty nice too! I'm thinking that the site could use another color, the tiny bit of green in "I syndicate" really pops out.
Nice use of animation--real attention grabber
It looks like you have a resourse site packed with great stuff, and since there is a lot of competition for web resource sites I think your using services like shorter url's and web mail are a big +.
I enjoyed your articles, especially the one about free internet access (I'm shopping for that for my dad .

A few comments
The menubar at the side is hard to read, maybe try not using the GLOW or BLUR or whatever it is you are using on the images.

Also, I think the outline where the blue meets the white would look better if it were a solid color instead of a blured blue.

The Logo looks really neat, good job on that!
