sorry to bring this thread back up. I'm not positive as to what the host means but this may be it, if they have FP extensions installed on the server for the use of maybe ASP's or something, whenever you transfer through FTP, it will alter these extensions and they will have to be re-installed. maybe thats why they wanted you to use FP.....

I'll second Orlando's opinion. It's absolutely unthinkable that a host will not allow standard FTP access. If they're unable to provide something normal like that, who knows what else they might not allow in the future. Change hosts and do it now.

Get out of that hosting company! It will only cause you more trouble in the future! A hosting company that do not let clients use FTP is a very bad company.

FP do get in via FTP, as far as I know of (FP98). So I don't know whats going on with them...

My advice is to get out of there and get a legitemate webhosting company.

Microsoft Front Page is a site development environment and one way to upload documents. It’s almost standard seeing that so many hosts support it, however FTP is still the most standard uploading protocol.

It really should not matter to the host how you upload. If they do not provide FTP access find another host. On the other hand if the client wants to use this host for some reason, the best thing you can do is drag and drop all your files into Front Page and upload (I’ve done it before for other reasons).
