There is not much reason to pay a lot of money unless you need NT hosting, or lots of extras like database support, then a lot of the time you'll be lining the rich pockets of inefficient companies. Just email all potential hosts and see if you like the reply you get (response time, helpfulness, etc) and of those ask around for any comments on your shortlist.

You can try www.amhosting.net. I've communicated with them in the past and they were very informative and helpful. Both support wise and feature wise they seem to be a good host. However, I haven't signed up an account with them so I wouldn't know how they actually perform.

Be careful with timehost.net. I've heard that they haven't been issuing new accounts to their customers. I can't confirm it but I've heard it several times.

I agree with Chad, I haven't heard anything bad about DreamHost either.

I have one of my sites hosted on addr.com for the last six months. They are great not one problem and very friendly and fast tech. support. Also no down time. For a site which only needs a gig of traffic that is your host.

Hey Brian:

Thanks for the addr.com suggestion. They got some pretty good prices and features. The only thing I see with them is low traffic limits, but what does one expect for such a low price.

Fairhousing,
Just wanted to make a comment on one of the hosts in the list that Zee has provided. I have never seen a single bad comment about DreamHost! They are a very cheap host and they do offer a lot of features for the money. From what I have heard/read/seen, they would be your best choice.

Fair Housing,

I don't know what features you need, but here are some webhosts that cost less than $10. Just keep in mind the other advice given about the reliability of webhosts, but here's a couple sites you can check out:

1. http://www.digitalspace.net
2. http://www.amhosting.net
3. http://www.tentex.com
4. http://www.timehost.net
5. http://www.dreamhost.com
6. http://www.telaweb.com
7. http://www.sweethomes.com
8. http://www.pair.com
9. http://www.stg.net

Again, I don't know about their reliability, service, uptime, etc... but hopefully those will help you get started.

I do have to agree with you Chad, but it seems like most people want all the options though. Your web site is like your million dollar building, and you don't want it down or not working. A few extra dollars a month investment can be a difference between quality and poor quality. I feel if a business is on the net to make money, then a few dollars shouldn't be much at all. If it is just starting out, then that is understandable. I'm glad I'm on the net, because it is so cheap.

My father owns a grocery store and when he bought it from his dad, he spent about $40,000 and that was really cheap (Pratically given). Then I have started a business and am making money online and it only costed me about $100 to get started. A huge difference. The Internet also has so much more potential and profit margin.

Thanks
Curtis

I think that $10 is definitly cheap but I also think that if the site doesn't have to have anything more than some logos and HTML, you shouldn't have to pay $25. We get all to many requests asking why we don't support ASP or CGI on our $14.95 account - the simple reason is because we can't for that price. Consumers are however expecting much to much and this was a prime example. We expect that a site needing the basics should expect to pay between $10 and $15 per month but if you need the more advanced features, you shouldn't expect to pay $15 a month.

I apologize Fairhousing for taking your thread off course.

In my opinion $10 is way too cheap. I would like to use Hiway.com as an example. They were bought by Verio.com and they are now the biggest host in the world. How do you think they got there? Not by selling $10 accounts.

Would you like to creat a whole web site, very hard work, that has all the information needed to sell web hosting. Then you have to make a sales manual, control panel, and all the things required to offer your clients.

Then when they order, you have to set them up, charge their card and pay for all the employees that are there 24/7. Do you think you will make much getting $10 a person?

The web hosting business is so expensive and people don't understand how much it takes to provide hosting with all the neat features that are available tooday.

I think there is way to many companies out there that are bringing the prices way down. I think the lowest price you should pay for one is $25. In my opinion, that is a good price for what you get in return. 24/7 support, web site up 24/7, all these neat features to make your business possible. The Internet makes it SO EASY for anyone to start a business because the cost doesn't even compare to the cost involved in real life.

Just my 10 cents.
