Chad,

Yes I was to general in comparing PHP to ASP. The speed that any application runs is server dependent.

Thank you, I did not intend to give anyone incorrect information.

Well in my recent experience I have also seen that ChiliASP isn't working 100%. Some of the object stuff is gone and overall it doesn't seem as good a product as its creators boast it to be.

One of the reasons we don't support it is that Microsoft ASP is always going to be the most up to date.

With Microsoft leading the market they introduce the new features and the other ASP developers have to catch up. This takes time.

MJS has brought out a very good point... PHP does the same things on UNIX as ASP does on NT. If you already know ASP though, you may not want to learn PHP - that is the only reason I see for wanting ASP on UNIX.

One point I did want to touch on that MJS brought up though - PHP is NOT faster than ASP. It depends on how the server is configured, how the script is written, and a ton of other items. There are many factors that can affect how fast each script will be processed.

I do not see the benefit of using ASP on the Unix end when PHP is just about the same as ASP,and is faster. It scripts very similar and it is not a very difficult language to grasp.

I guess the simplest answer to this question is: we can't support it. Most UNIX hosts use Linux (whatever flavor - makes no difference). ChiliASP does not yet work on Linux boxes - will by the end of 1999 from what I just read at the ChiliSoft site. Linux is the UNIX operating of choice for most hosts because of its open source code. If it won't work on our servers, we can't support it ... I think once ChiliASP will work on Linux servers, you will see A LOT more ASP supporting UNIX hosts. Until then, if you want ASP on UNIX, you will have to find a host that uses Sun Solaris as the OS.
