I used a WYSIWYG editor at first, adobe pagemill. it was a bad editor, but while using it, I learned HTML, and kept learning more HTML. Then, I did the coding myself. Now, I use dreamweaver and do the coding myself. Only thing i can never remember is the list items with ul, ol, il, dd, dl, dt, etc... (I think I am getting them straight now, but still a little difficulties). Dreamweaver helps a bunch with time adn produces unbloated code. Learn HTML then, use a WYSIWYG editor such as dreamweaver.

I learned most of HTML...basically everything except tables, before I started using an HTML Editor...what I'd learned helped me out a great deal, and I only wish I'd learned more beforehand...it would have made things easier at the time.

Dreamweaver does the same for me, i have know HTML for 5 years now, and i dreamweaver just gets some of the stuff done for me in a jiffy compared to how long it takes through handcoding.

I believe that people should start off hand coding and then use dreaweaver, some people do it the other way around, but doing it my way lets you know what the program is doing and therefore how to do it in a better and more efficient manner

I totally agree...an HTML Editor is fantastic, but you need a solid grasp on HTML before using one.

I actually use FrontPage 2000 for some sites...quite frankly, as long as you stay away from their themes, shared borders, or the infamous FrontPage Extensions, it can save you a lot of time and not load your pages up with bulky code...It's saved me hundreds of hours in table creation and overall site layout.

Yep, Dreamweaver is definetly quicker than hand coding, at least it is for me. But there is the big drawback that Dreamweaver doesn't write very good HTML. It's also a pain when you try to integrate a scripting language into it too.

Of course, your milage may vary.

Yeah Dreamweaver is good for people that know html and want a short cut.

Or people who want to build a website and don't really want to learn html in depth.

However if you really want to learn html then get onto note pad and code code code. I went straight onto dreamweaver and thought cool. I'm building a site. Then I realised I was getting lazy and new little html.

I just prefer the old fashioned note pad way. just my opinion.....

Thanks for the reply,

I was surprised at how usable it was within the first half hour. I think I was convinced after the first ten minutes, now I'm just keeping an eye out for drawbacks.

                               Thanx again.

Personally - I like Dreamweaver. It is much better that FrontPage. But as with any 'drag and drop' you will have to edit - your hand coding skills will not die.

...And isn't this whole game about making as much as possible with as little effort necessary?

Enjoy Dreamweaver.
