I think you should visit a site such as www.javascriptcity.com and work your way through as many scripts as you can. Download them, install them into your pages as per the instructions then modify them to find out how they work.

Hi,

 books --
Novices: SAM's Learn Javascript in 24 Hours -- goes from introductory to building a simple shopping cart & solitaire game.
Die Hards: O'Reilly's Javascript the Definitive Guide / Goodman's Javascript Bible -- both are filled with tables, examples, and lots of text.

 OnLine: www.htmlgoodies.com -- there's a 30+ primer on javascript

Ultimately though, you will find yourself right clicking on sites and figuring out what others have done.

 Hope this helps
Vinny

Lara,

Get a book, I got JavaScript for the World Wide Web, Peachpit Press, and go to web sites that specialize in javascripts. There are plenty of sites that have free javascripts. Try
http://dynamicdrive.com or http://wsabstract.com

to start. The best way to learn is jump in and do it, it's really not all that hard.

There are quite a few Java Script tutorial web sites. The only real advantage of a book is that most include a CD-ROM of examples and sample codes. However there are plenty on-line resources.

Netscape’s JavaScript reference/manual. You’ll find more information about Java Script here then you’ll ever need to know. http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/3.0/handbook/javascript/index.html

Microsoft’s JScript documenting (click JScript once you get to the site). http://msdn.microsoft.com/scripting/default.htm

For some good 101 type tutorials check out:

http://webdeveloper.com/javascript/javascript_beginners_guide.html
www.developer.com
www.zdnet.com

Good luck!
