&lt;p&gt;   Seeing as how you didn&#039;t include any code, no I can&#039;t tell you.  However, if you are using percentages, IE is probably using that as a suggestion and not a reality.  So, in cases where there is nothing in the 2nd or 3rd column, the 1st column will expand to accomodate the text.&lt;br /&gt;
    If this is the case, you have a number of options:&lt;br /&gt;
    specify pixels (which means you may have problems when the user changes the screen size);&lt;br /&gt;
    &quot;pre&quot; your columnar text; that is, force the browser to write the text in a pre-determined format;&lt;br /&gt;
    use a table for each column.&lt;/p&gt;
