sorry I was being thick, parent.close() will work for a frame set window.close() for a non frameset page

I'm guessing it has to do with the frames loading several separate pages. I'm not quite sure how to close it but I'll see if I can find out.

I'm lost, the type of link shouldnt matter at all

What you need to do is tell not the frame to close but the window the frame is it.

Educated guess:
parent.close(); or:
top.close();
