Thanks, but I want both - the Javascript for speed, and CGI for compatability. I will look into it when I get time and let you know if I get anywhere

If your goal is all browsers, then a server based CGI program is your solution -- forget about the JavaScript one -- it would only mean excess and unneccessary code in your pages.

The script that JP mentioned above is better than the one I've used in the past. I'll be switching to that script too -- Thanks JP!

Take a look at how it works at the moment @ http://www.Ten-Tenths.com/f1/Drivers/Irvine_E/

The Javascript will automatically redirect when an entry on the drop down list is selected - no need for a 'go' button...

This is great, and I like it, but if the browser doesn't support this Javascript (not all do) then the user can't get around the site. It would be nice if they had the backup that they can select an entry and then hit 'go' and let the redirect happen server side.

I might take a look and see if I can integrate the two methods when I get a moment - won't be anytime soon! I was just wondering if this has already been done...

I just saw a CGI one at scripts.riffnet.com/scripts/jumpbox/ . Whether it fits your needs I am not sure

I am using a Javascript drop down selector box on several areas of my site - eg www.Ten-Tenths.com/f1/Drivers/Irvine_E/ a new area which i'm currently working on - but these do not work in older browsers.

Have any of you come across a way of acheiving this which works in older browsers too ? Maybe a Javascript selector as at present, but backed up by a cgi redirect script ?

Any ideas ?

Well, i'm pleased to say that I got the planned alterations to work. Take a look - newer browsers will be redirected client-side as soon as they select an item from the menu, whilst older browsers (or those with Javascript turned off) will be redirected server-side via the script once they click the button.
