Absolutely right, Suzanne. I have been using SmartSaver for three years and would not dream of changing to anything else.

www.ulead.com

SmartSaverPro is the best image compression tool on the market. Here's why:

Not only can you switch between different image formats AT THE POINT OF SAVING, you can manipulate the colours in a gif, reduce them, increase them, change the amount of transparency, decide how to deal with transparency (all instances of whatever colour, or only the ones on the edge of the image), et cetera, you get to see REAL TIME file sizes, so you can make your decision based on quality, and file size, without having to go back to export it as a different file type.

It's what the others are trying to copy.

Suzanne

If you can afford it Photoshop 5.5 comes with imageready 2.0.

If you can't afford it try to find a copy of ImageReady 1.0 or Fireworks x.0.

Both ImageReady and Fireworks will help you understand how to compress images to the optimum level. In addition they will help you compress and make animated .gifs. Both will pay for themselves if you are a professional.

I find Photoshop does a good jopb of optimising gif's and jpg's. Whenever I put it into a jpeg optimiser it won't go much below 100 % without looking cr@p. Best to check them though I think....

Fairly important...I don't think the programs are as efficient...try GIFOptimizer...I don't recall where it's found right now...but it's very useful. I think it's at http://www.websitegarage.com
