I think that you are best preparing your own site from start to finish rather than paying someone else to do it. It doesnt take long to learn the art of web design and you will enjoy it along the way.

SITE DESIGN: You can use a free HTML editor such as Frontpage to put your site together. Or you can download any number of them from the net.

IMAGES: It is very hard to scan large images like paintings especially if they are not smooth. The best thing to do is to use a digital camera. Maybe you could hire one to get the feel of them. You will need a program such as PhotoShop so you can manipulate your images. Aswell as your paintings you should learn how to make other images for your site such as headers, logos & buttons.

Here is a list of sites that will help you out:

www.download.com - free programs
www.ozones.com - photoshop tips
www.designsbymark.com - photoshop tips

Of course this is the best site for advice. The people here are great and can help you out in all areas.

Hi Carie. My company is actually going to be taking on a project similar to this very soon. A few tips I would give you would be:

1.) To preserve the color and clarity of your picture, have someone who knows what they're doing scan them in and touch them up for you if needed. If you know someone who's pretty techno-savvy, they could probably do it for you.

2.) If you are able to design your own web pages, then you can do it yourself and save money. However, if you are new or are going to be presenting this to clients, you will probably want to have a web designer do it for you, as it will probably not cost too much (depending on the # of pictures you have)

3.) For maintaining the page yourself, I recommend you get Dreamweaver 3 if you are serious about it. A somewhat cheaper alternative would be to buy FrontPage or something, however I have found Dreamweaver 3 by Macromedia to be the best visually-oriented (aka WYSIWYG) editor around. It will set you back a few hundred dollars, though.

I hope this helps!

Carrie,

Are you looking for someone to design your pages for you? Or are you just looking for tips/tricks/ideas so that you can do it yourself?

If you answered yes to either of these questions you are in the right place. There are plenty of knowledgeable people here that can design or help you design your website.

If you are looking for someone to design your site, I'd suggest posting this same comment in the Job & Barter Forum.

If you are just looking for tips then you are probably in the right forum.

If I can be of any help with designing your page please e-mail me at jhendricks@loadmaste.net
