Ulead's PhotoImapct is an excellent image edtior.

I use Adobe Photoshop 5.0
Ulead PhtoImpact 6.0
Paint Shop Pro 6.0

All 3 are great.
Try the Ulead and Paint Shop Pro trials.

Adobe's trial doesn't allow saves so unless you're going to get it don't bother.

You may also want to look into Adobe ImageStyler, which is Adobe’s “web graphics” program. It’s a bit limiting but can be helpful if you need some good navigation or layout type graphics.

Microsoft also makes a program called Image Composer. They had a beta version floating around for free. You may want to try a search – I think I found it on AltaVista.

You might want to check out www.andyart.com and designsbymark.com, they both have great photoshop tutorials for creating buttons, etc. I think the best graphics program is photoshop, but fireworks and paint shop pro are similar for less $$$

Yes...I have no experience with Photoshop. But I do use Paint Shop Pro and Fireworks. Both can be picked up at the websites.

The best graphics software available is Adobe Photoshop, but it is very expensive. A cheaper option is Paint Shop Pro, which has many of the functions of Adobe Photoshop.
