How would I learn the abstract structure behind all programming languages then?
Is it a technique of some sort?

Thanks very much for your help. That's definitely made the way to go clearer. I have a tertiary qualification in computing and learnt four programming languages during that time, which has made learning HTML easy. And thanks also for the advice on which software packages to use.

Learn HTML.
Learn some JavaScript.
Learn dHTML and CSS by the time you need it (if you think you can learn it in half an hour).
Learn CGI related stuff by the time you need it (if you think you can learn it in 3 hrs).
Dont buy GoLive but buy Macromedia Dreamweaver. It can increase your productivity my about 20 times.
Learn Photoshop and try to be the best in it. Never ever underestimate it.
You dont really need Illustrator.
You might like Flash, but I would learn it as soon as you know all the stuff above.
Take some serious courses about graphic design (people ignore this very often, and thats why their websites suck)
Learn how to have an image look good and be small in size anyway.
Learn the abstract structure of any programming language. It will help you to learn new things a lot faster.

I think he means once your learn the logic behind programing, you can do just about any language in a short period of time.

I don't have much advise for you, due to the fact taht I am jsut starting out in everything myself. But I would recommend also learning Flash4. It is a nice program to learn that can really beef up a site and make it reall impressive looking. If you go to amazon.com they have some good books you can buy to learn more on it. Just a thought.
