As far as I know gif images are the only ones that can have transparent backgrounds. If your image will be ok as a gif (256 colors rather then millions) make it a gif. As far as the process for making the background transparent in corel photopaint--I don't have a clue, but since corel is basically mimicking photoshop (pretty nicely from what I've seen), I would think it's an option somewhere in the program (convert background color to transparent) ie... just having it look transparent on the screen "checkers" wont actually make it transparent on a web page until you make that background a color and set the background gif transparency color etc... (If you have a manual for the program, look up gif transparencies)

a tip:
make the background color of your image different from the colors in your image but as close to the background color of your web page as possible, that way when you make it transparent and it misses all the little edge pixels, it'll still look good on your web page.

As far as I know you can only make transparent .gif's (correct me if I'm wrong...) - this is done in your graphic program when saving the .gif file.

You will have to save the image as a GIF. If you will post the url of the JPG I would be happy to convert it for you.

Can anybody advise me as to how can I make the background of a JPG image ( which was originally created as a Corel 8 bitmap ) to retain its transparency, once I add such an image to a HTML page? I'm working out of a PC platform, and I'm using Corel Photo Paint as my image editor ( I also do some of my editing with a very ancient - 1994 - version of Aldus Photostyler, but the final formatting of the images is done with Corel Photo Paint, anyway ). Thanks in advance for whatever help I can get.
