Skirrow is right,

The reason his page is popular is because people that don't have a clue like me find his scripts easily as they are always in the faqs of our hosts. We then have a look through his site we see things we didn't know was possible! Like cool litle scripts so we think hey could I do that? Yes you can its easy here is how.... and so we get lured in. If anyone could make me understand cgi then I would definatley put a link to them cause me and cgi go together like water and oil.

I'm pretty sure he was ONE of the first to set a perl archive up. Their were probably others, but his scripts were original and easy to use! He probably invented the form to email script or something.
Their's definately been a HUGE increase in perl archives over the last four years! I've seen CGI-Resources.com triple in size!

Communitech, which is popular amongst newbies, priases him. They have a section in their pcp dedicated specifically for him:

When I was new to hosting, ect, because of this, I practically thought that Matt was the "Perl god" (actually, I never went that far, but just imagine others!)

Hi,
I think they're so popular because he was probably one of the first people to put a perl archive on the web! Also, almosts all sites with perl links link to him. Most web hosting companies will have a link to his site in their CGI help section!
The original dry spell at cgi-resources.com was because they transferred to a new server and had problems! They got that fixed but I guess they just got bored or something for a while! Who knows?
Anyway, it's being updated almost daily now which is good! You can always use http://www.cgi-index.com if you want!

I saw a couple of the "new" icons go up in May, not many changes. Prior to that, it was a loooong dry spell.

It actually has been updated in May. I had one of my scripts added, but it sucked so I made it forward to wiredstart.com . Matt emailed me telling me
"In the future, if you would like to list a site with us, please let us
know when it disappears, rather than redirecting users to a new link.
We have removed yourlink from our index."

Haha Orpheus! With his perl skills he probably at least failed intermediate computer class (perl specifically).

Anyway, you better go look again. It looks like they've started updating it again. But there are other sites like it: www.hotscripts.com www.perlarchive.com
