Well it may make things easier for some having non-status (dedicated) IP’s would be a higher and very real security issue (for the average end user). A static address can help from repeat attacks (whether that be denial of service or what ever). It also prevents many users from running servers with dedicated IP’s (a pain for some of us, but a good reason for ISP’s to use them).

Well, in a normal situation that would work. But the trouble maker has a static IP address so it changes everytime he logs on.

This is why I think everyone should be assined a particular IP address and keep it as long as they are with that ISP.

It would make it a lot easier to track down/ban people from a web site. Don't you think?

The only way to do this is to ban a particular IP address. You don't want to turn away users who have not given you any trouble. The best thing to do is create a log of IP address's then match them to the trouble makers (if you can).

I think you would use a wild card for that
