Andrea,

Don't worry that it opens in a text editor, it should do that. CGI files can't be ran/opened like regular HTML files on your PC.

You said that you have all the files lined up like the readme file directed, right? Then, using your FTP program upload those scripts in exactly the locations they are to the directory that the readme file told you to make. Make sure that you upload the scripts in ASCII.

After that, you will need to "CHMOD" the files. This isn't as hard as it sounds. If you are using CuteFTP or WS_FTP look below for instructions:

CuteFTP Instructions:

1. Select the file you want to chmod.
2. Right click the file.
3. Choose "Change file permissions," or something like that.
4. Check all the boxes in the "Owner" section.
5. Check all the boxes in the "Group" section.
6. Check the "Read" and "Execute" boxes in the "Other" section.
7. Click ok.
8. A box should pop up (depending on your version) and verify that you did it right. Click ok.
9. Continue doing this to all the files that you uploaded, this is very important. You can select multiple files and CHMOD them all at once, also.

WS_FTP Instructions:

1. Select the file you want to chmod.
2. Right click the file.
3. Choose "Chmod (Unix)."
4. Check all the boxes in the "Owner" section.
5. Check all the boxes in the "Group" section.
6. Check the "Read" and "Execute" boxes in the "Other" section.
7. Click ok.
8. You should then see a bunch of stuff write to the lower part of the screen. If it says something on the line of "200 SITE CHMOD command successful" it worked.
9. Continue doing this to all the files that you uploaded, this is very important. You can select multiple files and CHMOD them all at once, also.
