Ultra Edit is the best for windows that I have found. Textpad is very nice also, but just not quite as nice in my opinion.

Beyond compare is a great comparison tool for perl scripts as well.

Allaire Homesite does perl color coding, but it's a Windows only thing (I haven't been able to get wine to run it yet).

For windows UltraEdit is very nice.
For Macintosh BBEdit is probably the most popular choice.

I would like to start some sort of perl editing program for windows and X windows. Something free (open source) that would do what the program robp mentions but would be a little faster and smaller.

I dunno about other people, but personally I just use a text editor in Linux, either vi or pico.
If you turn warnings on (-w) and use strict, then when you try to execute your script, it'll show any major syntax problems.
