Have you edited the registry of IIS to accept the cgi mime type? Its really a pain in the butt to do that with IIS

Yeah well I did and it is as much use as a stab in the left toe. It doesn't say where to put it ,what to do with it or anyhting at all except from 2000 html files. So I am officially declaring that I give up! I just cant take it anymore captain! She just doesnae have the power! Thanks people anyway but my days of cgi are over. Next time i talk about a bin it will be the one in my bedroom that needs emptied cause of all the beer cans piled on top of it!

Ok Progress:
I now know what CGI means (Common Gateway Interface) and I know what it does! Wahey!
Ok I have set up my IIS server to host an internal intranet at http://abz-server01/testweb

I have created a directory called cgi-bin and downloaded someone's perl guestbook.

I put the guestbook.pl into the cgi-bin directory and the html pages outside the directory and this is what I get:

HTTP Error 405
405 Method Not Allowed

The method specified in the Request Line is not allowed for the resource identified by the request. Please ensure that you have the proper MIME type set up for the resource you are requesting.

Please contact the server's administrator if this problem persists.

Can I run executables from my cgi-bin directory? If I create a cgi directory for my web server can I then allow users to run executables through cgi?

don't sweat it

CGI is fuuuun

first, if the book is called "CGI Programming" or something with CGI in it, throw it away. Go out and but a book called "Learning Perl". Perl is the language of the gods. Once you learn Perl everything will become clear.
