dvd plays on old player but not new one?
I have been unable to burn a video dvd that will play on my newer player
It's a cheap GPX (brand), but I bought it because I don't have a remote for my old player and sometimes I need to access the menu for subtitles etc. I tried to program a universal remote for the old player, they allow 3 digit codes and the player has a 4 digit code...
I am converting avi and mpg files using Axara and burning the resulting VIDEO_TS folder (and empty AUDIO_TS) folder to the dvd using various methods.
I have tried a "Live" DVD-R filesystem (rewriteable) and "Mastered"
Discs will play on my computer and the older player, just not on the newer dvd player.

A lot of the cheaper brands don't play burned DVDs and other uncommon formats. I spent the extra money on a nice DVD player (over $120 5 years ago
), and it plays just about anything. A few years later, my parents purchased a cheaper DVD/VHS combo, and it fails at playing several DVD formats that mine plays w/o a problem.
For burning DVDs, I have had the best luck with Nero.

Perhaps you are correct, but it plays a burned dvd my friend has (Seven Pounds) - I examined the working dvd, it has the same files and structure as the ones I am making
I am trying Nero, but it seems so bloated - it took about 5 hours to download the 382MB trial installer on a broadband connection, and it's taking forever to install -
Think I just need to get a better dvd player, which should be cheap about now
after Christmas
[EDIT] So after installing for about an hour, Nero gave me a fatal error - I say f__k it!

I have Nero 6 Ultimate on my computer and have never had a problem. You can find OEM versions on the net if you look hard enough. I think the problem is with your DVD player, though, even though your friend's DVD played.

Funny thing - even though the Nero 9 trial installer said it was an unrecoverable error, and I selected the option to roll back and uninstall all components...
I was cleaning up my desktop, and tried clicking on the Nero Smartstart shortcut, and the program came up (!) However, it also created a Lightscribe shortcut (my drive is capable) that is dead...
Nero burned a video pretty quickly, but refused my dvd-r disc and required a cd-r/rw disc - and the resulting disc shows a different error on the GPX player and still doesn't play, but plays on the older one.
I will be shopping for a player that will play my homemade discs.
[EDIT]
Having Nero installed prevented Limewire from connecting... Nero would not uninstall using the Vista Control Panel, I had to manually delete it.

Sorry to here this Randall,
There are so many issues with the newer and cheaper DVD players not having all of the de-coders like many of the old and more expensive ones.
I wish they would keep to just one bl**dy format!
