Hi guys,

After 5 years, it was due time to re-design my portfolio website:

www.marconi-media.co.uk

I would appreciate any feedback,
thanks a lot!

Cheers!

First impressions: I like everything except the photo on the right side. It looks creepy and makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't want to keep looking at it.

I'm not sure about the horizontal navigation in the portfolio. It might be confusing to your target audience. This is cool, but something more straightforward might be more effective. I'd also like to see some spacing around the images. The good thing is that your screenshots are nice and big so I can get a good look at the site without actually going there.

The text is very small and could be hard to read for some people. Especially since it's grey on black. Especially the left sidebar bit on the About Us page.

Speaking of the About Us page, if I were a potential client I'd want to see more here. You mention some vague impersonal details about your staff, but don't say who you are. Names and photos would do a lot to bring your company to life and help to build trust.

I was also put off by the grinning smiley on the left side with the links to the chat. That button could be improved.

Hi Megan,

Thanks for the detailed feedback, I've put everything on my list. You've actually detected every weak spot of my site, I have feedback from several forums and they, but yours is like all of them added together.

The only thing is the About Us page, where at first I wanted to add the info you say should be there, but then some people told me it was unnecessary personal stuff. Some of my coders don't like to have their photos online. Other reasons are that I represent a small but very effective web agency, with 4, sometimes 5 designers+coders, while other firms present themselves with 20+ staff, that might make some customers go away even though only 2-3 people would work on their projects at any company.

Cheers!

You could just put the names and photos of key people. That's the most important bit. There probably are some people who are looking fro a big company but others who would prefer a smaller agency. I don't know.... I sort of think it's dangerous to present yourself as being something you're not, because they're probably going to find out the truth at some point anyway.

I'm glad I could be of help!

I actually like the photo on the right side and the only down side to using it is perhaps it resembles to much the female faces used in so many video games.

Yeah the photo gives the whole site a nice look.

You know, I've got a desktop background a little different to that face, you've obviously reworked it and such, I'm not sure where I got it from, probably Google, do you know where the original image is from, I suspect it was a site like Deviant Art, I'm a member and see lots of such wallpapers, would like to know, if it's a stock photo then I can understand why me and some of my friends have it as a desktop background, though like I said, on the site it's been altered from the version I/(we) have here:)

I think your site looks professional. I am a boy so i really like it. But, a small problem here is loading speed. It takes long time to load your site. It would be better if your can improve loading speed. One more thing, if i am a girl, i will scare your picture on the right. It like a ghost in horror movie. >"<

I like it too, the only thing I would say is on the subject of your portfolio...

If I were a potential client then I would be looking for one thing here, and that is a link to the websites that you show there... the reasons from my point of view are;

1: I would like to be able to have a proper look and see the sort of variety you put in to each website (including page elements) to see what is available.

and 2: I would like to know that other people looking at your site would be able to look around my website

Overall, however, it's a very professional looking site and its use of bright colours make it rather attractive.

This is a very good site.
very appealing (although I am not sure white on black would please everybody) and easy to use and navigate.
Given what you do, your portfolio shows a lot of variety of the work you have done, and being able to visit the sites is also a plus, which would make me feel very confortable dealing with you.

A few comments you may want to consider for improvement:

- at a lower screen resolution the face goes behind text and it becomes white on white in some part.
- scroll bar at bottom: when you get to the end it "springs" back which is not the greatest.
- price enquiry box: flickers on the screen when the page is loaded.
- portfolio: site link provided which is great, but making site image clickable too migh would be nice.
